Family Center Campus

Our Family Center Campus is committed to nurturing children through home and center-based educational programming, focusing on family and community relationships in Rogers Park. The Center comprises two program options: the Family Center birth to five early childhood education program, and the home visiting program. Our program options provide high-quality, affordable early childhood services to more than 240 children and their families.

Early Childhood Program
Accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the Sheila Reynolds Berner Family Center houses our full-day early childhood program for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. We offer:

  • Early Head Start
  • Head Start
  • State Pre-Kindergarten programs
  • Obesity Prevention Initiative Program

Our state-of-the-art facility serves a total of 116 children ages 0 to 5. We are committed to providing young children with the highest quality care and education in order to best promote their social, emotional, language, cognitive and physical development.

Eligible parents pay a subsidized child care fee based on family size and income.

The facility operates year-round, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 am until 5:30 pm.

Home Visiting Program
Accredited by Healthy Families America, this program serves 125 children under age three, their families and pregnant women:

  • Through weekly home visits, family support workers assist parents to achieve goals related to family stability and the health and well being of their young children. Mothers and fathers increase their ability to engage in positive parent-child interaction and develop stronger, more loving bonds with their children.
  • Parents are invited to participate in parent groups, field trips and other special events.

Program Highlights

  • All families enrolled in our Home Visiting option receive a home safety assessment.
  • All families participating in either program option have the opportunity to consult with a certified car seat technician to learn about safe car seat installation and child car safety.
  • Extensive parent involvement includes a Parent Policy Council as well as regular meetings, educational workshops and parenting classes.
  • Healthy Cooking classes available to parents, as part of our Go, Slow, Whoa campaign for healthier eating.
