Volunteers play an important role at Howard Area Community Center. By sharing their time and talent they enrich our programs, support our staff and positively impact the lives of our program participants. We are fortunate to average over 1,000 hours of volunteer service a month.
Here are our current volunteer needs:
Ongoing
- Adult Education Tutor (ESL, Literacy, Math).
- Early Childhood Center Classroom Aide.
- Clerical Support (filing, data entry, mailings, shredding).
- After-School Tutoring/Recreation with 8-14 year olds.
- Use our van or yours to pick up food from the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
- Marketing: prepare brochures describing our programs and projects.
- Assist low-income households to apply for energy assistance (LI-HEAP)
Group Projects
- Garden, mulch trees and general maintenance of outside areas.
- Paint offices, classrooms and common areas.
- Conduct a food, school supply or winter clothing drive.
- Volunteer at the Greater Chicago Food Depository and earn credit for our food pantry.
