Youth Program

The Youth Program provides activities that are designed to increase young people’s chances for overall success in life. The program partners with several neighborhood public schools and operates the following projects:

Greensleeves, based at Gale Academy, and Project JAM!, based at Jordan Community School, are after-school youth projects for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. They offer tutoring, literacy activities, life skills workshops, and structured recreational and arts activities.

CMSA Teen REACH is based at Chicago Math & Science Academy and helps 6th, 7th, and 8th graders improve academic performance, develop social skills, and get ready for high school.

High School Youth Project serves primarily students from Sullivan High School. It has two focus areas: academic and life skills, and career exploration and employability skills. Teens participate in internships and other work experiences.

The Computer Clubhouse offers access to cutting edge computer technology on a drop-in basis for youth ages 10-18. Participants can use professional equipment and software for music and video production, photography, homework and other projects.

Program Highlights

  • Each year, about 200 elementary school and high school students actively participate in after school activities.
  • 100 children engage in an intensive, full-day Summer Camp based every year at Gale Academy.
  • Approximately 50 teens acquire work-related skills by attending employability workshops and/or securing jobs or internships.
